Sixth Grade Update

February 20, 2001

Math Update:
Students will have worksheets each night for homework.  I have rewritten questions from past proficiency tests. Students will be using Sharpen Up in Mathematics books for  the next several weeks. All students will benefit from studying the workbook.
Their Valentine Math Project is due Tuesday. A parent signature on the finished project is worth bonus points! Students who participated in Student Exchange Day will work with me fifth and ninth period Tuesday.  Students need their own calculator and protractor.

Science Update:
Journal #20 and their science calendar is due Tuesday. Students will present their science fair projects in class. This week we will also discover the properties of the simple machines: the screw and the wedge. The Middle School Science Fair will be held
Saturday, February 24. This is a wonderful opportunity to see our students shine!

Language and Spelling Update:
Spelling Lesson 20
Language - Students will be working with the Sharpen Up books. They will focus on using a variety of sentence structures. They will finish similes and metaphors.

Reading Update:
There will not be new folder work this week. Students will be working with Sharpen Up. Mrs. Chumney will be sending home practice packets with some students this week.

Social Studies Update:
The Chapter 11 Test has been rescheduled for Wednesday. Tuesday will be a review day. Please ask to see your child's vocabulary folder.

Camp Update:
Final plans are being made. It is not too late to get your forms and money to Mrs. Parks! Some scholarships are still available. All students not attending camp will be in class at the middle school.

Enjoy your long weekend!
